A Russian in the United States is facing life in prison for hacking.

Stanislav Lisov is accused of an $855,000 cyber fraud.

Extradited to the United States from Spain, Russian Stanislav Lisov may be sentenced to life imprisonment. This was reported by the programmer’s Lawyer Bukh Arkady Bukh.

He explained that his client does not admit guilt and is waiting for a jury trial. He is accused of stealing $855 thousand dollars and an attempt to carry out other illegal operations in the amount of more than four million dollars. Sentencing could stretch into 2019 or 2020.

“Stanislaw could receive a sentence that exceeds his life expectancy in prison. In other words, we are effectively talking about a life sentence. Although in most cases, for such crimes, they don’t give above 25 years in prison. But even this, you understand, is a lot,” Bukh said in an interview with Izvestia.

According to him, the defense is now waiting for the prosecutor’s office to offer to plead guilty in exchange for a shorter sentence.

As wrote kp.ru, the Spanish government in December last year agreed to extradite to the United States programmer Stanislav Lisov. U.S. intelligence services accuse him of hacking attacks on banks and stealing from their accounts of clients’ money.
