“Already flying home!”: Alexander Vinnik’s lawyer told how he perceived the release from prison in the U.S.

Alexander Vinnik was released from prison in the United States and is being flown to Russia.

Alexander Vinnik, accused of multi-billion dollar money laundering through the cryptocurrency platform BTC-e, has already been released from prison in the United States and is being taken home to Russia. His transportation is being handled by the federal marshals, the organization responsible for transporting prisoners. This was reported by Vinnik’s lawyer Arkady Bukh in a conversation with KP.RU.

– Yes, it’s really true. We contacted the prison and he is not there. Transportation is carried out in a secret format. This is done to reduce the risk of attacks by cartels, as well as to ensure the safety of marshals and the prisoner himself. In transit, Alexander is incommunicado, but once he arrives at his destination, he will be able to call his family,” the lawyer explained.

As a rule, prisoners are initially taken to a third country: Ankara or Qatar. On average, transit takes a week or more, but in the case of Alexander Vinnik everything will be much faster.

– Given the political situation and the U.S. desire to improve relations with Russia, we can assume that the transit will take only a few days, and perhaps even hours,” he said.

Assumptions about the possible release of Alexander Vinnik have been discussed for a long time. According to the lawyer, the last time he was in touch was last night.

– We have been lobbying for his release for a long time. The client knew that we were working on it, that everything would happen soon. He’s not a highly emotional person, but it was clear in the conversation yesterday that he was glad.
