His transportation is being handled by the federal marshals, the organization responsible for transporting prisoners. This was reported by Vinnik’s lawyer Arkady Bukh in a conversation with KP.RU.

This is done to reduce the risk of attacks by cartels, as well as to ensure the safety of marshals and the prisoner himself. In transit, Alexander is incommunicado, but once he arrives at his destination, he will be able to call his family,” the lawyer explained.
As a rule, prisoners are initially taken to a third country: Ankara or Qatar. On average, transit takes a week or more, but in the case of Alexander Vinnik everything will be much faster.
– Given the political situation and the U.S. desire to improve relations with Russia, we can assume that the transit will take only a few days, and perhaps even hours,” he said.
