American rapper Jay-Z (real name – Shawn Carter) is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl, which he allegedly committed in 2000 together with rapper and producer Sean Combs (known under the pseudonym P.Diddy). This was reported by NBC News on December 9, referring to the case file.
It is noted that the lawsuit was originally filed by a lawyer from Texas Tony Buzby only against P.Diddy. However, on December 8, the name of rapper Jay-Z was included in the document. The victim, identified as Jane Doe, claimed that Combs and Carter raped her in 2000 at a party after the MTV Video Music Awards.
Jay-Z himself said on his social media page X (formerly Twitter) that the allegations are “idiotic” and that Buzby is acting unprofessionally and did it to blackmail the rapper. The musician added that the Texas lawyer had contacted his lawyer and expected to receive a reward in exchange for the allegations not being released to the public, but clearly misjudged the victim.
“These charges are so heinous in nature that I implore you to pursue a criminal case, not a civil case! Someone who would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked up, don’t you agree?” – NBC News quoted him as saying.
According to the case file, at the said party, the girl allegedly signed a “non-disclosure” document. After which she was offered a drink that made her dizzy. She was then abused.
“You have made a terrible error in your judgment in thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same. I’m a young man who got out of Brooklyn. We don’t play games like that. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect the children,” Jay-Z added.
Rapper P Diddy was taken into custody in New York City on September 17 by court order. It was specified that in 2023, P Diddy’s ex-girlfriend accused him of human trafficking and years of violence. On the day of his arrest, the rapper was charged with organizing prostitution and human trafficking. A court hearing to hear Combs’ case is scheduled for May 5, 2025.
Later, the rape allegations against him continued to multiply. On Oct. 21, CNN reported that seven new lawsuits had been filed against P. Diddy. They are the first time other stars have been accused, but their names have not been released. The allegations include rape, harassment, battery and unlawful imprisonment at Combs’ parties from 2000 to 2022. Afterward, on Oct. 29, Reuters learned of P. Diddy’s new charge of abusing a 10-year-old child in 2005 and a 17-year-old in 2008. Three more people, including two men, filed sexual assault charges against Combs on Nov. 20. The episodes took place in 2022, in the early 2000s and in 2004.
U.S. attorney Arkady Buch suggests the rapper could face multiple life sentences, but prosecutors could go after the artist and reduce the sentence if he testifies against important people.
The New York Times reported on Nov. 16 that Combs was accused of trying to obstruct a criminal investigation into extortion and human trafficking. According to law enforcement officials, he tried to evade responsibility with the help of bribes. The report comes a week before a hearing that will decide whether P. Diddy will be released on bail.
