WASHINGTON, August 1 – RIA Novosti. Ukrainian Fyodor Gladyr, who was arrested and is being held in custody by US authorities on suspicion of hacking, faces decades in prison, his Lawyer Bukh told RIA Novosti.
“Fyodor Gladyr was arrested and extradited to the United States on fraud charges. The charges are very serious and my client could face decades in prison if convicted,” Bukh said.
He said the case is “very complex” and “there is no decision yet whether (Gladyr) will take a plea deal.”
On Wednesday, the U.S. Justice Department announced charges of cyberattacks against three Ukrainian citizens and their involvement in the hacker group FIN7, also known as Carbanak. Ukrainian citizens Fyodor Gladyr, Dmytro Fyodorov and Andriy Kolpakov were reportedly arrested in Europe. Gladyr has already been extradited to the United States and will appear in court on October 22. Fedorov and Kolpakov are still awaiting extradition, the former in Poland and the latter in Spain.
Each is charged with 26 counts of fraud, computer hacking, and identity theft, among others. According to the U.S. agency, FIN7 “used a front company, Combi Security, whose headquarters are believed to be located in Russia and Israel.”
